It is defined under section 378 of IPC
In theft movable property is taken away out of the possession of the owner without his consent. Theft is only about the movable property. It can be committed by one person also there is no element like force and compulsion through fear is also not present. There is no delivery of property by the victim
This is punishable with imprisonment up to 3 years or fine pr both
It is defined under section 383 of IPC
In extortion consent of the owner is obtained wrongfully by coercion that means by putting him under threat.
It can be of movable as well as immovable property. It can be committed by one or more persons here force or compulsion exists and the element of fear is also present. There is the delivery of property by the victim and it is punishable with imprisonment up to 3years or fine or both
It is defined under section 390 of IPC
There is either theft or extortion in every robbery. Robbery is an aggravated form of theft and extortion. Robbery is theft if in the course offender causes or attempts to cause death, hurt, wrongful restraint or fear of death, wrongful restraint, hurt. Robbery is extortion when the offender at the time of committing extortion uses instant fear of death hurt or wrongful restraint. Robbery may be committed in respect of immovable property where it is in the form of extortion and may be committed in respect of movable property when it is in the form of theft. Here force may not be used.
The element of fear exists when it is in the form of extortion otherwise not. It is punishable with rigorous imprisonment up to 10 years or fine or both. It is committed on the highway between sunset and sunrise.
It is defined under section 391 of IPC
It is the highest offense against the property. There is no consent in dacoity, it is wrongfully occupied from the owner. It may be committed in the form of immovable property when it is in the form of extortion otherwise not must be at least by 5 people. In dacoity, force may or may not be there but fear exists in dacoity. No delivery of property by the victim if theft is committed to the course of dacoity. It is punishable with life imprisonment or rigorous imprisonment up to 10 years or fine or both
Dacoity and robbery
Every Dacoity is robbery but every robbery is bot Dacoity.
In Dacoity, there are at least 5 people required but robbery can be committed with one person also.
