Amit Panghal registers a historic win for India in World Boxing Championship where he bagged a silver medal. He went down to the Olympic champion Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan. Commonwealth Silver medalist Manish Kaushik bagged the bronze medal. This year has proved to be the best medal haul for the country with two medals in the country's honor. Before this year India never won more than one bronze medal in this championship.

Vijendra Singh, Vikas Krishan, Gaurav Bhaduri, and Shiva Thapa are the only boxers to win a medal in this event but these medals were all bronze. In this purview, Panghal's win is indeed historic. Panghal previously won bronze in Asian Championship 2017. He won gold in Asian Games 2018 after winning silver in Commonwealth Games.
