Appearing for Class 12 CBSE board exams will be optional this year however class 10 doesn’t have this option. Class 12 students will be evaluated under a special marking scheme, in which their performance in the last three school examinations will be taken under consideration as informed by the Central Board of Secondary Education to the Supreme Court on Thursday.
The results from the special scheme will be declared this month and students who will be dissatisfied with their results, they can then opt for a pen and paper exam which will be conducted by the Board later this year. However, this decision has been taken only for class 12 CBSE students. Class 10 students do not have any such option and their exams have been canceled. According to the media reports, CBSE will issue a formal notification to this effect by Friday.
CBSE was forced to take this decision as parents expressed their concern over the safety of their children as many cities are facing a surge in cases with each passing day and also many schools which were listed as examination centers have now become quarantine centers which will pose significant logistic challenges.
The CICSE, the ICSE exam board has also told SC that it is ready to cancel the remaining examinations of both class 10 and class 12 students and they will be promoted based on an internal assessment system for which the ICSE board will announce the details soon.
