Salmonella Outbreak Caused by Onions

We all are already facing global pandemic COVID-19 and the news about another outbreak is horrible. According to the centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Salmonella outbreak has infected 640 people from 43 States while 85 people have been hospitalized. This has been caused by onions. They further requested people to not consume, serve, or sell onions if they do not know the origin of the onions. The food and drug administration has also warned not to consume red, yellow, white, or sweet onions from any integrated grower packer supplier especially from Thomson international Inc. The onions from Thomson international Inc were sold at various stores including Walmart, Food Lion.

 

Although various companies recalled onions and have taken other preventive measures. They also packed food again with recalled onions. but people are requested to check their groceries and keep the recalled onion products only and throw the affected one. The further said that consumers must avoid cooking foods with onions to remaining safe. The symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps after consuming affected products between 6 hours to 6 days. The people over 65 years, children below the age of five and people with weak immune systems are more vulnerable to this. The patients of Salmonella have been found in 43 states including California, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Utan, and Virginia.
