The age of partition is considered to be the most brutal time in Indian history. The idea of communal violence inflicted on people was horrendous. Through these times the writing of Amrita Pritam tells us the plight of women in the era of partition. Pritam herself migrated from Pakistan to India due to partition. Her personal experiences are very well highlighted in her works.
In the novel Pinjar, she highlights the semi autobiographical elements of violence inflicted on women. Her poetry itself says a lot about the state of women in society. Pritam was the feminist voice of her time. She brought forth the concerns of margin to the center. It is her 100th birth anniversary, and her works still remain as relevant as ever.
