Auction at City of Joy: Auction of Indian Premier League, 2020

As the year is about to end, the City of Joy is to hold the auction of Indian Premier League, 2020, on 19th December, 2019. IPL 2020 shall be the the 13th edition of the nation's most popular league. The League was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India( BCCI) in the year 2008. The League is of double round- robin league format and playoffs. The first league featured 8 teams and represented some of the cities of India. In 2010, two new franchises Kochi and Pune also came up and the ten teams contested to be the best in the country.
However, the League has seen many controversies where the Kochi franchise was terminated form the League in 2011, for breaching the Boards decisions. The following years, Decan franchise was sold to SunTV group and the franchise name was changed. In 2013 the Pune team withdrew dew to financial insufficiency. The following year two teams namely Chennai Super kings and the inaugural champions , Rajasthan Royals were suspended for 2 years based on match fixing and betting. The players of these two teams were taken up by two new franchises, Pune and Gujarat, who entered into a two year contract with the BCCI for playing in the IPL.
This year, Kolkata is to witness the IPL auction. This time, only one auction shall be held. Each franchise is allowed 82 crores of Indian rupee to be used along with last year's 3 crores left after auction.This year s auction is the last one before the franchises disband their squad and buy new players from the mega auction of 2021. 332 players shall be there in the auction pool, while only 73 players are to be filled. For more than a decade Richard Madley brought down the gavel as the IPL auctioneer.
However, the BCCI replaced him with Hugh Edmeades last year. The auction is to begin at 3:30 IST and shall be shown in Star Sports.With 2 crore Indian rupees as the highest reserve price, seven overseas players – Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Dale Steyn & Angelo Mathews have been considered as the most valuable players. Robin Uthappa is the only Indian player hitting the auction list with a base price of 1.5 crore Indian rupees. Other Indian stars, Piyush Chawla, Yusuf Pathan & Jaydev Unadkat have set their base price at INR 1 crore.
A total of 186 Indian players, 143 overseas players & 3 players from Associate Nations will be up for grabs in the VIVO IPL 2020 Player Auction in Kolkata. The Auction will start at 15:30 IST. There are certain names for which the franchise will be willing to pay huge bucks. They are Chris Lynn-2 crores Pat Cummins-2 crores Glenn Maxwell-2 crores Aron Finch-1 crore Jason Roy-1.5 crores Marcus Stoinis-1 crore Evin Lewis-1 crore Tom Blanton-1 crore Dan Christian-75 lakhs James Neesham-50 lakhs. So, with IPL auction knocking at the door, we shall witness which team dominates in the table and which team balances their squad for the 13th edition of Indian Premier League.
