An exceptional run chase by CDG and Tom Bruce became the spine of a clinical run chase which went down the wire till last over to take NZ home in Pallakelle. So here's what happened: Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. They just had one changes to their line up,  Sandakan came in for Rajitha.  Whereas NZ was forced to make a change as Ross Taylor was injured. Tom Bruce replaced him only and showed his caliber.

Mendis made a blistering start to the Sri Lankan innings. But his knock was cut short by Dance. He finally had his man as he went for 10 runs in his first over to Mendis. After that Perera also fell to Sodhi in the Powerplay. Fernando and Dickwella were rebuilding only before Santner pulled off a stunner to remove Fernando the young prodigy. Then Shanaka and Dickwella fell in quick succession to the Pacers. A late cameo from Jayasurya took them to a sub-par 161. In reply, NZ lost an early wicket in form of Munro who looked dangerous. Kuggeleijn was promoted to no 3 but only added 8 runs to the board. In the fourth over Seifert was also sent packing and NZ we're reeling 38/3.

Only then CDG and Bruce went into damage control and registered fifties to turn the tables in favor of them. Though CDG was given life once when he was dropped by Madhushanka. He then went on to get a calculative 50 to cement his case to the NZ side. Sri Lanka did manage to get CDG out but it was way too late by then.  Only 15 we're needed of 10 balls by then. Sri Lanka did give them a scare by quick wickets of Bruce and Mitchell but Santner took them home by two balls to spare.

Now with already having clinched the series NZ will Aim for a series sweep away from home. Sri Lanka who put lots of fight and showed character this series would like to win the dead rubber for pride.
