The toss was won by the West Indies captain Kieron Pollard and he led the India team bat first. The two openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put up a solid start and they made a partnership of massive 227 runs. While KL Rahul lost his wicket to Alzarri Joseph at a score of 102, Rohit continued. The duo added 73 runs from 24 deliveries and India was able to give a massive target of 387 to the West Indian batsman. Then the work of defending this target was on the bowlers. The blowers showed up their class and wickets fell in quick succession. The fast bowling department bagged 4 wickets, with Shami getting the 3 of them.
